I suppose for a lot of people tabs are great. I guess it's a thing for you kids. Most of us old farts had to learn by ear playing along with the records.
Still, not one to whiz on it, if you feel the call to spread the word, and tabs are your gift. Tab away young dude.
For me, I'll do what I always did, put it on and figure it out.

Notice I did say "tab & standard notation." Figuring it out by ear is exactly what I intend to do. I was just wondering if anyone would appreciate utilizing such transcriptions.

Yeah, I saw that, but I have an issue called "Selective Reading" it's not as rare as you might think.
There are always people looking for someone else to do the work for them. If you do a good job, then it'll be appreciated.

"Alarma!" will probably be reissued at some point here..
we're making plans to try to reissue almost everything,
starting with the first album.
The guitar/bass tablature could easily be used for
something though.. we do occasionally get a request
for sheet music or tabs.
One idea we've been tossing around is making
some kind of book with photos, lyrics, stories, etc...
it could be that we could try to include some tablature
in that collection - if there was some available. Or,
perhaps we can find a way to print it inexpensively
on its own.
I'm not sure what the demand would be, but if we
could print them as they sold - it would be a nice
thing to have available. We've been thinking about
doing a poll on the site for various reasons - we could
ask folks about this idea and see how much interest
there was.
Getting the band members themselves to write things
out would probably be difficult - since most of them
are way to busy to do it. But, if someone did most of
the work, I'm sure we could get them to look it over
and "approve" it or make changes.

That's a much better response than I expected. Obviously I intend to do a good job - otherwise I wouldn't suggest the idea. I'll keep you updated with my progress.

Would there be more demand for this if it was a newer album? Is this something that'll just end up on one of my Websites with a Paypal donation button? Would you buy a copy? I'd appreciate y'alls input. |
Since you asked for opinions, I wouldn't buy it, but then I don't play anything, so what do I care - but I did listen to the music on your site.

Yeah CDrom is not a bad idea. When we say inexpensively,
basically we mean in volume. Most manufacturing places,
CDs, DVDs, VHS, Records, CDrom, Books, etc have a minimum
order and it's usually 500-1000 copies. The balance is not really
if you can sell 1000 copies right off the bat, it's if you can sell
enough copies right off the bat to pay for the manufacturing
of 1000. That usually helps in determining the price as well.
Then if you buy 2000-(on up) the price per unit gets cheaper and
cheaper, so thats a factor.
To sum up, it's basically just trying to gage the selective audience
for the product and find a manufacturer that fits that range...
so you don't actally lose money on the project.
With something like this, even if there is not a market that can
support printing of say 1000 copies, you still migh be able to
couple this project with another project and maximize your audience
and also make both projects more appealing.

I think guitar tabs would be great - 1 or 2 pages with lyrics and chords. I would play more TST-related songs if I had tabs to start from instead of figgering it out, although I am slowly improving. There's only so much time.
I'm not really interested in traditional sheet music because it's just too many pages and I wind up doing nearly as much work taking it back to tab as figgering it out in the first place. I do seem to remember a sheet music software/ service I saw one time that was pay-per-download and seemed to be decent (I got a few free sample downloads
), but I don't remember the name of it. Wait- I just remembered I think it was called Sibelius Scorch or something like that.
Blessings in your endeavour, artic!
)
Although Alarma (as a whole CD) would have been one of the last ones I would have picked to start with!
