What are the 5 TST works you took a while to like (or you just plain don't like), and why?

Here are mine:

1. DFBB: it took a while because of the choppy and sometimes dissonant music. I like it now - songs like Safety Net won me over.
2. Doppelganger: dark/strange musically and lyrically. Even now I have to be in the right mood for this one. But man, it has some of DA's best concert tunes (like New Car!)
3. OE: Terry's overt vibratto was iritating, plus I never liked 'Pulpit Masters'. But hey, it has 20-some songs on it, and different songs grew on me after a while. I guess my problem was I was expecting another Let's Spin - given the track record of varied sounds and styles I should have known better.
4. Bibleland: grunge rock, rough at times, some songs I wouldn't ever want to sing in church (like Bakersfield)! But once again, certain gems started to shine after a while.
5. SoTH: guess what, this one is now #2 on my favorites list behind MBD. Different theme, lyrics, music set me back for a while; repeated listens got me to love it.

Overall there isn't a single TST work I don't like or don't play at one time or another. Each one has its own unique place for me.

daniel amos, shotgun angel and even parts of horrendous disc:

only because,it seems to me, the band really found their "voice" with alarma. up til that point (and i grant you there are exceptions) there wasn't a whole lot that stood out from the rest of the pack (yeah, i know it's a generaliztion and i will quit trying to paint with such a broad brush). it was (again for me) parts of hd and totally with alarma that the band "broke thru" into the band that i love so much. i'm done...let the stones flySmile

keep in mind, i'm from l.a. and i mind the country /eagles sound. Evil

1) dfbb-it took me a long time. my favorite along with MBD.
2) DG-it's just so strange, it's a brave record.
3) K&I - I still really don't get into this one.
4) Gift Horse - I like this one, but it really had to grow on me.
5) Motorcyle. I thought it was a bit on the bland side. It shows how much I "know" Roll Eyes

Bibleland: really through me for a loop musically. Wasn't expecting the grunginess.
Kalhoun: still my least listened to. I'd probably like it more now if I gave it a chance. My initial response to it wasn't good though.
Daniel Amos: howdy hey there, cowboy
The Revelation Project: A bit too much Chuck Smith for me, and since soon has appeared elsewhere.......
Sacred Cows: still just kind of irritates me....I like the concept though.

I did not care for Motorcyle for a long time as I was expecting something else when I bought it. With DA you really can't have any expectaions style wise.

I love the Sacred Cows! Wink

I had a hard time getting into parts of ZOOM DADDY, while other parts I really liked. I like the music, but still don't get "I had a bad experience with the CIA..." and "Nightmare at the Elk's Lodge" I have no clue whatsoever.

The first time I heard BIBLELAND, I thought "What the heck are they doing now?!" It was so unlike anything they'd done previously, and I've never been into the grunge sound. But it grew on me after repeated listens.

My least favorite is SACRED COWS. It's just really hard to regard it as anything more than a novelty record, and its embarassing to listen to if you're not alone. (Kind of like "Beans, Beans, the Musical Fruit" from Imaginarium)!
