Will There Ever Be A Terry Solo Tour? |
 |
So, the title says it all...
Just curious. I think a solo tour from Terry (much like Mike's solo tours) would be great. He's such a great storyteller, and his catalog is so varied. Has he ever done a solo tour? I can't remember there ever being one. After the great experience I've just had with Mike on his current tour, I'd love to be able to book Terry!

when i saw him with mike in moses lake it was just terry........
it was good.....
but.....
he mainly did all terry solo stuff...
and this was right after mbd was released!!!
i wanted to hear some mbd!
i think he and mike together did joel and and so it goes...
of course Da had played the night before at the creation festival...
and the 77's...
for like 20 minutes each...
i didn't go out of protest since they were only given 20 minutes each....
probably my last chance to ever see da in WA state..........

He did a tour with Phil Madeira after Avocado Faultline came out.. thats the closest he's come I think.
He has talked about doing a tour like the ones Mike does in recent years however.. I know the idea is at least on his mind.

I know when the topic has come up in recent years, the idea was to tour and do all kinds of music.. Dogs, solo, DA, etc. Maybe even have a guest musician at certain shows to help out.
Maybe if everyone that is really interested in that sort of thing would post their words of encouragement to Terry here something could come together. That can go a long way.

Well, I think that there are many reasons that this would be a positive thing:
That kind of setting would play to Terry's strengths as storyteller and singer/songwriter.
It would be a new venture, because he's never toured solo before, thus possibly garnering more attention because there is a built-in angle of promotion.
Some shows could be recorded for an EP or full-length release (a la "It's For You"), which would provide a relatively inexpensive way to fund another studio project or just generate some income.
We would get to not only hear some great tunes, but the stories behind them.
Fans (like me) would love to hear solo acoustic arrangements of DA's back catalog tunes. Can you imagine some of the "Darn Floor, Big Bite" songs, for example, in this setting?
It's been a long time since Terry's toured with someone else besides the Lost Dogs. It's been a long time since we've heard him do his vast catalog of songs other than LD tunes. (Not complaining here, just commenting. I've loved all the LD shows I've seen.) For example, hearing "The Glory Road" on this last tour kind of made me think about how many great DA songs should be heard live again.
So, that's my case. Anyone else?

I'm a Terry fan and all...but that imagery is enough for anybody to boycott Mr. Taylor for a good long while.

yes and make it a double! I think I could even bring him to my church as we have a concert promoting ministry and I have been wanting to do something outside of the youth crowd for a while.

I feel extremely lucky to have seen Mike here in Houston last week. But to get to see Terry? That would be fantastic. After all, he is my favorite Dog...

I saw an AF show (Phil n Terry) n a BBQ show (MIke and Terry)
the "solo" act is a good gig-the AF show probably was the most "terry-fied" of the two-
he did a lot of TST stuff-many from AF-
plus 10 gallon Hat / Buffalo Hills / Lets Spin - and some others
the BBQ was mostly dogs stuff
-In the Distance-
Come Down Here (great tune!)
Breathe Deep
Honeysuckle Breeze
and the All DAy Sing tunes.
i wouldnt mind sort of a K and I tour - and throw in some more JOhn Wayne.

He also played solo at my father-in-law's funeral. I was in charge of the music. I'll bet they're still scratching their heads at some of my choices!!!
