DA and related may not sell a lot of copies of their releases compared to, say, oh I don't know, uh, the Tuxedo Clad Megastar,
but there sure is a lot of interest in their stuff on the various auction and 'tenderly used' sites. If you could somehow calculate a ratio between original release sales and post release (auction/used/trade, etc) sales they might show up as one of the most sought after/beloved musical acts in the history of forever. Or not.

Mine aren't going anywhere but in my CD player or on the shelf either, but I just find it interesting how much auction activity there is for great music that apparently sold respectably the first time around but never great. Some of the buyers are probably 'speculators' who hope to sell it for more later. As another poster said, it just shows that we need more reissues. I watched Townes Van Zandt's Live at the Old Quarter 2CD set sell for nearly $100 a few times and then was very pleased to grab it for $15 or so when it was reissued.

It does seem fairly ironic that the people making the most money off of this stuff isn't the people who need it the most (Terry and the boys).

Amen. I remember a few years ago some artists pushing the idea of getting a portion of the re-sale of their material as the used CD market started to take off. That trail balloon (sp?) didn't fly to well, but it is a shame that the boy's can't/don't get a cut somehow.

That's just the way the secondary market works. Once you own something, you can pretty much do what you will with it (not making copies of it, but selling it). The art market is the same way. Van Gogh would be floored to know people are getting filthy rich on his paintings.

Yep. Property rights, free markets, etc. I was suprised to learn that some of the earliest writings on economics and markets were by Spanish Catholic clergy. I'm pretty sure this was back when Catholicism = Christianity and vice versa (i.e. pre-Luther). Their writing pre-dated Adam Smith and was (i've heard/read) on the whole very, pro-free markets. Ironic that socialism is so rampant in my Church now.
