If they had the beach concert on Sunday, I could go, but our neighbor's eldest dauther is getting married on Saturday across the creek from us. If I chose the dogs over that wedding, I think the foundations of another wedding (some 24 years old) would be terribly shaken.

Dennis, you don't think I would be so foolish, do you?
Hopefully the beach party will rage on for more than a day, and I can catch the second half?

Just imagine a kickass version of Burn It Up following the sun into the Pacific and out of the hills...Well, maybe Get Me Ready.

If at the end of the line there ain't no pot-of-gold,
Just the Santa Monica pier,
Well, we loved our biscuits and gravy
And learned to twirl a rope
And enjoyed what
We had while we were here.

We just took vacation in St Louis and I stopped at a couple of the route 66 tourist spots along the way. Like the Jesse James Wax Museum & the Meramec Caverns. I saw a sign that said historic route 66, Cuba, MO and wantedto ramble on down there to find the reptile gardens, alas 3 kids in a cramped Toyota Matrix was not conducive to extra road time. Still cool though.

I wish I could be somewhere along the road while they are doing this. It would be awesome. But you know...

I'm about a 4 1/2 hours drive to The Mother Road (or Glory Road) at the closest point. I'm going to try and go to the Santa Monica pier for the beach concert. I think that would be cool.

Hey, I just looked at the tour schedule. At Merrimac Caverns, are they playing inside at the big cave? That would be pretty cool. Might be worth the drive to get up there.

Of all the historic places along Route 66, it's kind of funny they'll be playing at McDonalds. On that day, do the Happy Meals come with Lost Dogs action figures? I can see Derri wearing Ronald's clown outfit and wig....

I always thought the original McDonald's was in Des Plaines, Illinois.

I guess this was the first McDonald's franchise. Who knew that this board could be so educational?

RE: From the Dog's website: |
|
The business began in 1940, with a restaurant opened by siblings Dick and Mac McDonald in San Bernardino, California. Their introduction of the "Speedee Service System" in 1948 established the principles of the modern fast-food restaurant. The original mascot of McDonald's was a man with a chef's hat on top of a hamburger shaped head whose name was "Speedee." Speedee was eventually replaced with Ronald McDonald in 1968.
The present corporation dates its founding to the opening of a franchised restaurant by Ray Kroc, in Des Plaines, Illinois on April 15, 1955, the ninth McDonald's restaurant overall. Kroc later purchased the McDonald brothers' equity in the company and led its worldwide expansion and the company became listed on the public stock markets in 1965. Kroc was also noted for predatory and unscrupulous business practices, forcing the McDonald's brothers to leave the fast food business and leave California to return to their state of origin, New Hampshire. The McDonald's brothers were forced by Ray Kroc to take their own name off of their restaurants, after being sued by Kroc. Kroc deliberately opened up McDonald's restaurants near every McDonald's brothers restaurants just to undercut their business in a feud documented in both Kroc's autobiography and in the McDonald brothers autobiography. The site of the McDonald brothers' original restaurant is now a monument.
the mcdonald brothers may not have been the sharpest tools in the shed but kroc was a burro.
