You'd be surprised at the "linkage blindness". How many DA fans are there who don't know about this board? Or have Facebook and don't know DA has a presence there (you do, don't you?)
BTW I will pull the trigger on my first Kickstarten! (thank you Rabbi Bergman). You can pay Kickstarten with PayPal, right? I just need to decide on a package. I want the LP set so bad but a linear digital copy too.

Oh absolutely... there are around 14000 on Facebook.... around 10000 in the store database ... a little more than half that on the news email list, etc, etc.
What surprises people is that it's not all of the same people. There is some overlap of course, but people that are on the email list are often people that don't like Facebook. People that follow the band on Facebook may not want the email, etc.
That's why we pretty much have to hit every venue. You can't rely on just one avenue of communication. A fairly large percentage will not do something like kickstarter, but will buy it eventually. A lot of DA fans will only buy specific kinds of releases... so you might have people that will buy Shotgun angel, bug they may not want HD. Or people that love the alarma chronicles, but won't buy the newest album. There are a lot of strange categories of DA fans out there... the sad thing is that there are still fans that lost connection somewhere along the line that may not yet realize the band is still active. It's hard to find them, but all of these numbers continue to grow after 18 years of doing this site, etc.

There are also a lot of old fans that are disconnected from the DA community, at Cornerstone we always had people come up and say they didn't know DA was still producing music. I don't know if these people live in caves or what, not sure how to reconnect with them. The old management tried to figure out how to solve that issue, but what magazine do you pay to advertise in? Christian radio...? The internet is the best current way, but even that doesn't seem to do it in every case. I used to wonder about paying for a billboard along one of the nations busiest highways. Even if you had one for a month... maybe?
And all of that is geared toward reconnecting with old fans, how you generate new ones might be entirely different.

Kickstarters are awesome, but if you're not 'following' the artist or aren't signed up to receive their latest digital newsletter you can miss it. I missed Bill Mallonee's Kickstarter to issue Audible Sigh on vinyl by 7 days!! That's one of the top five albums I'd hope would be released on vinyl some day, and I was just out of the loop and hadn't visited the DAMB in a while, that's how I found out about it.
I linked this Kickstarter for HD to a few of the HD YouTube videos in case someone might stumble on it.

I will scoop up every single new DA release especially on LP. And I still want Jerry to do something so I can get it on LP.

Yeah the back does look like a wacky Eddies thing. Although they were doing a pretty wacky eddies like thing at the time in concert with costumes and stuff. Thats the Preachers from Outer space bit. They had also planned an EP at the time of HD that has some comedy bits in it. The Eddies have always been there peeking out from under the surface.

You're not too late! Go to his bandcamp or Facebook page for more information.

I've been waiting to choose a Kickstarter package until I saw the tshirt design, and I don't think I'll choose a tshirt package with the current design. When I think of HD I think classic, and the current tshirt looks like it could be a Swirling Eddies design. Just my personal taste, I guess. |
The disk looks like a green olive complete with pimento! People will see you wearing that and ask "Just what the H%^$?" and you can explain the whole DA/Eddies business to them.

Just asked Jerry on Twitter if the success of the HD reissue will encourage him to have another go at his Kickshtarten project. I'll keep doing this until he gets a restraining order on me or he makes the darn album!
I can see it now- Dig Here... HD and whatever Jerry pops out, all side-by-side on my rickety LP shelf...

I am perusing the various levels...but I do not see "sensuous shoulder rub from Berger". That's the mythical $500 level.

Actually, no. I've tried and failed three times. I'll try it again. They were not able to "process" whatever that means. I am aware the amount is not charged until the deadline.

Oh brother- I think I found the problem. It worked this time. When I put in the card info before, I put in my name "as it appears on the card", in all caps, first and last and middle initial.
example:
ANGUS G BERGERLOVER
The form didn't ask for this, but every other card input ever asks for this so I did it. On a whim, this morning, I put my name in again just first, MI and last, capitalized but not in all caps.
example:
Angus G Bergerlover
That worked. Go figure.
I'm a backer now! For reals.
