When Terry gets off the tour we will run some ideas past him,
he seemed to really like the box set format of "A Coat of Many
Cupboards.'

Not sure if something like that is feasible, might be, but
maybe what is more possible is to do a series of reissues
like the first album we are working on with all the bonus stuff
and a companion book thing...

Coupling these tabs with just the right project is probably
the key.

ditto, wes, thanks for the link.

I was just telling my daughter yesterday that I need to find the asl dictionary because she is interested in learning it, and I've forgotten some of the letters. You just made my job easier. Pleased

There was a group of kids up here called The Faithful Fingers that did songs in sign language. Sadly, since they were from a church (the people who ran it were teachers but the school did not like a group that had "faithful" in the title) they got kicked out of the school. They didn't even do Christian songs. Our schools are so full of idiots Roll Eyes

So, the school would rather have a performing group called simply "The Fingers"? Shocked

Why don't you just put up the tablature on a website for anyone to read? That's the whole point of the internet, I thought... the free exchange of ideas and information...

Hmmmm. Seems like most people have dropped the "free" in that statement. Kinda like the "Faithful" part of that group's name. Gives me the urge to give them fingers of some sort........

But I guess that wouldn't be quite right. Big Grin

Free doesn't pay the bills or keep music coming
out unfortunately. It'd also be nice for the
fans (including us) to have a nice DA book to sit
on their bookshelf or their coffee table.

No qualms about that. I wasn't thinking along those lines at all, really, just lamenting the fact that what once seemed to be a wealth of seemingly free info now has a price tag on just about everything. Well, maybe in a way I guess I am....... but point well taken.

basically we mean in volume. Most manufacturing places,
CDs, DVDs, VHS, Records, CDrom, Books, etc have a minimum
order and it's usually 500-1000 copies. The balance is not really
if you can sell 1000 copies right off the bat, it's if you can sell
enough copies right off the bat to pay for the manufacturing
of 1000. That usually helps in determining the price as well.

Then if you buy 2000-(on up) the price per unit gets cheaper and
cheaper, so thats a factor.

To sum up, it's basically just trying to gage the selective audience
for the product and find a manufacturer that fits that range...
so you don't actally lose money on the project.

With something like this, even if there is not a market that can
support printing of say 1000 copies, you still migh be able to
couple this project with another project and maximize your audience
and also make both projects more appealing.

I think the CD-Rom idea is not a bad one, myself.

I'm pretty familiar with the printing and manufacturing aspect of it, since we've handled some of that stuff with other bands, and we're doing our own merchandise too. - http://www.academedesign.com/

My input is this - if I was to create and release a product that did not demonstrate excellence (i.e. a good majority of the tab on the Web), then I would think it a fine idea to put it up on the Web for everyone.

I don't know if you've seen some of the Van Halen, Eric Clapton, or any transcriptions in general, but the quality ones have tab below standard notation, and chords on top. I'd like to do something like that.

I do seem to remember a sheet music software/ service I saw one time that was pay-per-download and seemed to be decent (I got a few free sample downloads Tongue ), but I don't remember the name of it. Wait- I just remembered I think it was called Sibelius Scorch or something like that.

Blessings in your endeavour, artic! Smile )

Although Alarma (as a whole CD) would have been one of the last ones I would have picked to start with! Tongue

Thanks, MF.

The study of Alarma! is for my personal benefit more than anything, so I was thinking maybe I could do an anthology type thing and tab out a few songs from various albums. I think an entire album is somewhat ambitious, though I'd probably have it all figured out one day.

Can't say that I have. Probably the most commercial I've seen is some of the stuff for worship music. By that I mean the service you pay a certain amount for. Our church does that and we get some pretty decent chord charts, etc. No note for note tablature or anything like that though. Sounds like a pretty ambitious project.

Ambitious, indeed. I'm probably going to find some willing folks to assist my endeavor.
