This new one sounds great - I LOVE Sara Groves. She's coming to my town on Nov 9th..............with Phil Keaggy & Michael Card. Should be a great concert.

I think The Lazarus Heart was from 1994.

Correction.... that'd be Bret's coffee cup (or is it Jevon's?).... Tongue

True, I'm not a big Stonehill fan, but $10 for a show on the other side of town, c'mon!

Anyway, I thought Thirst was a decent album, and I love his version of "Love and Mercy," so who knows? Maybe he wrote something else good too. Tongue

i have to carlize whenever possible-

I agree- I'd drive crosstown and more just to hear his voice- its always been a draw to me, and I've yet to hear him live..

Edge of the World is an inviting CD- though I'm afraid it shows his age a bit- whereas, say, MBD..

DON"T!

Good show last night. About 120-150 there (in a church that held around 400 for Keaggy this time last year, mind you).

A few observations:

1) BOY, what a flake. Big Grin Very funny, but WOW....Shocked Did all of 7 songs in the first 50-minute set, with a ton of spontaneous schpiels, in a variety of conflicting voices, in between. Anyone think of dubbing him "Random Randy"? Big Grin

2) Then came the 10-song/40 minute set. WAY more serious. I think I get why I haven't "gotten" him before now. The man should really put out a stripped-down album like the show last night (just him). And given that his new songs are very much of a personal nature it would definitely serve him well next time around. (Did his dad die recently? from the serious moments, it was clear he's been through a lot recently, in any case. "Leonard [i.e., his dad] Had a Toaster," was both weird and compelling; there was another very bluesy song which I don't know the name of but was very compelling) Anyway, there's some really creative melodies and lyrics buried under those "contemporary" (Roll Eyes ) arrangements. "Angel's Wings," from Thirst, in particular, was absolutely transformed by yanking it out from under all those soppy strings on the CD version.

3) His voice was in GREAT shape. And again, you'd never know it from his CDs, but he's quite the decent guitar player as well.

4) I won a CD! Hoo-hah. (Good thing, since I had no cash. Big Grin ) I went for Edge of the World. When I can wrench it away from Marion (for whom it doubled as a birthday present Big Grin ), I'll soak that puppy in. But at least now I know what I'll be listening (past the arrangements Roll Eyes ) for this time around. Pleased

Live Stonehill!!!

the only way to go Smile )

I've seen him 5 times and he is better as a solo act. Although when he was with Phil Keaggy it was pretty darn good too. Cool

Keaggy Stonehill band was a great show.....add in
our brother Tim Chandler and David Raven...it was
pretty darn cool. The whole show in St Louis is etched in my
mind, I rememeber Tim eating an apple durring the show.
Haha! And At one point Randy had problems with his
guitar and Phil had to come over and fix it....randy made
several comments about the "humbling experience."

Stonehill is a guy that you kind of have to 'get' his personality,
once you 'get' that... he is pretty cool. His performances live
help in that respect. I really like most of his albums, some songs
have a very haunting feel.

Sounds about right.

In any case, I feel way lighter today. Pleased (Probably getting that sermon out of the way yesterday morning didn't hurt either; it's hard to "crank 'em out like sausage" and keep the day job y'r still waiting to escape from... Evil )
