Slight correction: "Horrendous Disc" is mostly sung by Jerry, but Terry sings the middle part ("The show is over...").

I just came across this thread, and... wow, I'm stunned.

I remember reading an interview with Tim (don't know where to find it now) wherein he said something about how the bass guitar part is "the least important thing" going on in any given song. I shook my head and thought, "not when you're the one playing the bass, Tim."

I'm pretty sure it's two guys, and the voice going "El Sw-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-m" at the end seems to be the same as the subsequent "all right," which I think is Tim.

I'll have to listen again, though.

Just listened to LIVE BOOTLEG again today, and... is that Jerry and Tim trading lead vocals on the "handsome fiancé" (aka "foreign language") part of "Tidal Wave"?

I don't get outside my home state much, but I had occasion to visit Dacula, GA less than a year ago. I never would have thought a DA guy would live there.

Wow... I always saw Randy's credit on the album, and I never thought the two voices sounded alike at all. And I used to be really bad at distinguishing voices.

Random thoughts:

"Mr. Flutter" would be improved by using only the first half of the chorus the first time. Having the whole, long chorus so many times drags the song down.

A few songs (including "Boomtown" and "John Wayne," at the very least) sound to me like DA songs in every possible way.

"Big Shot & Miniature Girl" isn't a favorite but the middle section is really cool.

"Ten Gallon Hat" makes me wonder: when exactly did they make music that actually sounded this way authentically?

It's hard for me to pick a favorite, but "Chicken Crosses the Road" and "Too Many Angels" are probably my top picks, by a narrow margin.

Since my copy is also not handy, I did a quick Google search. The one discussion I found about the record that mentioned the speed said it was 33 (well, 33-1/3).

Just to be a bit nitpicky: I have this, and if I recall correctly it's technically not a "45", but rather a 7" record that plays at 33 RPM. (The 6-minute B-side isn't actually too long for a 45, but apparently someone saw the need to make the record play at 33 because of it.)

Why is that house/street considered a DA landmark?

If you've seen the pictures of him from LIVE BOOTLEG '82, he shouldn't be so hard to recognize here.

This has long been a favorite album of mine, and I just had a couple of odd little observations about it after listening to it this week.

(1) This is really silly, but of any serious DA-related song I've heard, "Picture of You" reminds me the most of "Swirling Eddies Mellow." (That's not even counting the reprise, of course.)

(2) We all know that lots of Terry's stuff has a Beatles influence. It's especially clear here at the end of "Ever After," where much of the melody is lifted straight from "Cry Baby Cry." But here's some Beatles-related influence that I wonder if anyone else has picked up on -- or if the "influence" is actually just coincidence.

One of John Lennon's unlistenable experimental albums of the late '60s was "Unfinished Music No. 2: Life With the Lions." Almost the most musical moment on it was "Baby's Heartbeat," where a short recording of the heartbeat of John & Yoko's baby (that ended up not surviving) was looped for 5 minutes, creating sort of a hypnotic rhythm.

Terry's album's notes don't say what baby's heartbeat is heard in its very brief "Baby's Heartbeat" track. But, at any rate, could the inclusion of the track itself have been influenced by the track on the Lennon/Ono album? It's interesting to think that Terry could have actually heard or bought that very, um, unmusical album, much less have been influenced by part of it.

Finally got my hands on another CD copy at a decent price. It's a little bit scratchy looking and someone scribbled their name on the disc and the inside cover (no, it's not an autograph). But it plays!

Bad note in "Sail Me Away"? 02-19-2014 07:39 Forum: General Discussion

Right around 1:41 in this song (I think after "pilgrim's call") there's a stray keyboard note that seems to be outside of the song's key. To me it sounds like a mistake and I've always wondered why it was left there. Has anyone else ever noticed this?

Gave it a close listen thru headphones to see if I heard that, but instead heard "he's on the stage" alternating with another phrase I couldn't make out.

Speaking of words on the HORRENDOUS DISC album...

Can anyone tell what the background singers are saying in the final chorus of the title track (underneath "God sees it all / he has total recall" etc.)?
