Mike Roe "Hard Times Come Again No More" tour 2009. 03-20-2009 15:14 Forum: General Discussion

Lo-Fidelity presents, Mike Roe "Hard Times Come Again No More" tour 2009.

Everybody knows it's ugly out there, so why not join us as Mike plays songs that will share our collective blues while attempting to chase them away at the same time. No mean feat in these difficult days, but as we know, the Good Doctor always has plenty of good cheer and powerful medicine to help cure what ails us. Mike will be playing songs from the 77s' latest release "Holy Ghost Building" as well as the 'more miserable' and saddest songs he can find from his collective 77s/Lost Dogs/solo past. In addition, he will be previewing songs from his upcoming solo album that deal with our collective hard times from America's rocky economic past -- songs of mutual despair and hope culled from the great American blues/gospel/bluegrass masters of yesteryear.

Speaking of 'masters', with this tour Mike is offering pre-show "Master Classes" providing a unique opportunity to get inside his head and hear the stories behind the songs you all know and love. The Master Class concept is Mike’s response to years of requests from fans for personal input regarding songwriting and guitar playing. In order to gather information about what you, the fan, may want in the future from a master class session, this first of a series will not be a 'clinic' in the typical music store sense nor a formal 'class' featuring printed curricula. Mike says “This is my chance to share some knowledge and technique with my fans in a more intimate and informal setting than you would commonly experience from an artist in a music store or convention setting. During the Master Class sessions, my hope is to engage with the fans on a more personal level and share insight into some of the songs that have become favorites over the years. I think it’s a great opportunity for all of us to have a lot of fun learning what I thought I already knew!”

For the first time, fans will be able to hear the true (as opposed to rumored) stories about their favorite songs that will reveal how and why they were written. Then, they can witness up close the guitar parts that made them come alive, all in an effort to expose some of the mystery behind the playing, writing and composing process. Mike will also be happy to field questions regarding vocalizing, the business of music, recording techniques and much more.

“One feature of this concept that makes it unique will be the submission of specific questions and topics by the attendees beforehand so that I can gear each class session specifically to those that will actually be there. I am also expecting that a fair amount of the fun and goodwill present during these class sessions will spill over into the concert performance that evening. Those who attend the sessions will have the option to bring along their own acoustic guitars, and I will attempt to teach the group a medley of one of our 'hits' with the aim that if all goes well, the group could join me onstage for a final encore at the evening performance. A splendid time is guaranteed for all!” - Mike Roe

As a special bonus for paid "Master Class" attendees, Mike will offer a free CD of rare and unreleased tracks as a limited edition souvenir to mark the event. This special CD will only be available to those who attend the "Master Class" sessions!! Please note that there will be a separate fee to attend the "Master Class" session from the concert performance, and not all concerts will offer both. This decision will be left entirely to willing and able promoters.

Currently we are looking to fill dates from May 1, 2009 through May 15, 2009. Mike is looking to aim this tour at the Pacific Northwest, Rocky Mountain, east coast and southern states, however, any and all offers will be entertained. As always, Mike is available for private functions, weddings, bar & bat mitzvahs, birthday celebrations, bachelor & bachelorette parties, baby-sitting and marriage counseling, as well as personally recorded songs and messages for friends, enemies, and loved ones alike. (Email the good Doctor directly for info on personally recorded songs and messages at mike@77s.com)

For more tour info, performance & "Master Class" pricing, and available dates, please contact jeffrey k. at
booking@lo-fidelity.com.

Stay tuned for more info on the upcoming solo re-release, and we hope to see you on the tour.

Lo-Fidelity Presents:
Mike Roe - "Harvest Loon" tour 2008

Please join us as Mike dons a turkey suit and rings in the harvest with a continuation of his successful and much lauded "John The Baptist" and "Holy Ghost Building" tours....

"The John The Baptist and 77s Holy Ghost Building tours played very well but both were so brief. I really look forward to spending a couple weeks on the road performing the new 77s album material to our fans in their homes, church's and clubs. The new album was so much fun to premier in an intimate acoustic setting and I would love to share it all again before the holidays set in." - Mike Roe

Mike will again make a solo return to the road, playing both acoustic and electric guitars, and featuring material from the recently released 77s recording, "Holy Ghost Building" as well as doing special requests and fan favorites from the past.

The short answer is that with the exception of one promoter, nobody booked them. I personally contacted over 200 promoters and venues and while there was a lot of interest, in the end only one promoter booked the band for a show in Kentucky.

As bleak as this all sounds, I think the main reason is that the economy is slow, gas prices are at an all time high, and the band isn't supporting a new record. The really good news though is that they have big plans for the fall and they will be touring again before too long.

jeffrey k.

Wow, that is bleak. Look, I know they're not promoting new material, but only one taker? Yeesh!

"Oh, poopy."

Well again, it wasn't for lack of interest. There were many promoters that wanted to do shows, but wanting to do a show, and putting up the $$ are two different animals. The guys simply can't afford to get in a van and play for the door...especially with gas prices. But again, there are big plans for the fall, and they will be out again soon.

Lo-Fidelity Presents:

Mike Roe - The "John The Baptist" tour, 2008. Please join us as "Mike tours to prepare the way for the 77's..."
We are happy to announce that Mike will make a brief solo return to the road, playing both acoustic and electric, to debut material from the soon to be released new 77's recording featuring their take on some very elderly (and recent) obscure (and familiar) American blues/gospel/bluegrass tunes. Mike had this to say about the tour:

"I am excited to try and play as much of the new album as I can so folks can get an idea of the kinds of songs we did and how we did 'em. Since everyone has been waiting for two years to hear this, hopefully my little recital will be a fun appetizer while we're all waiting for the main course. Mmmmmmm......such a tasty treat!"

Here are some articles from the Salem, OR newspaper. Apparently, Larry was working on an album with Frank Black of the Pixies and Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse.

This is what the project apparently is, according to Jason Carter who plays with Frank Black and is part owner of Slackertone Records where the album will be released:

"It's a cover of a Lee Hazelwood record, Trouble Is A Lonesome Town. It was a concept record, one of the first concept records ever made, about the life of a small town, and Lee Hazelwood narrates it, plays a song, narrates it, plays a song... It tells the whole story of a town, and it's a brilliant, brilliant record. The original idea for the [cover] record came about from Mark Lemhouse, who is a great musician as all of us know, and him and Charly (Normal) talked about "Hey, let's do a cover of this! Let's get some names on it, it will be fun! Let this be a quirky project!" Originally, all of us were gonna dress up in these crazy outfits, with sombreros, like a mariachi band, and just tour incognito, not tell anybody about this, just hit the road and see if people figured it out. Well, make a long story short, we asked Charles to be involved, he said yes. Charles Normal's brother Larry [Norman] is involved on it, and now we've got Isaac [Brock] from Modest Mouse to sing on it too."

Not sure. Do you know Jeffrey?

Sorry I missed the question the other day...

No, no music box. But it is a potential bomb.

Mike called me today and told me to Snowglobe I brought the band over the weekend was confiscated by Homeland Security at the airport. They won't give it back either. Mike said he had it in his carry-on, and because it is filled with liquid, they took it! It's so stupid, it's funny. So I will have to make another and send it to them!

No he didn't. I don't even know that he has it. It wouldn't have mattered if he had though....to be honest. Mike titled the cd and gave direction on the art and photos. One is official, the other isn't. It's not an issue.

Since he's not doing that anymore and this is no longer available, there is no competition to worry about.

Yeah....I really didn't take it as "competition"....I just had no idea what you were talking about. Add to that, MANY people don't fully read the emails we send out advertising new releases, (based on all the emails I get with questions they could have found answers to just by reading the adverts...) so for all I knew, you maybe thought we were selling the BigDork DVD!

It looks like the same tour but a different venue. I'm surprised Mike didn't mention this because he should have known about it. Maybe he forgot since it wasn't an "official" release and not widely advertised...

Mention it where?

And it was from the same tour, and a different venue.
