The Eddies Get Perspective

That's what I would have called it. It's a perfectly themed album hitting on all the screwed up views we suffer as humans.

My wife and I went to the Madonna Inn for our honeymoon 13 years ago and it is exactly as Camarillo describes it. It remains our earthly Valhalla. Don't believe me? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madonna_Inn

Incidentally, when we spank our kids, we call it perspective.

Agreed. It was wonderful. Thanks for being there Wes. I'm sorry to all of you who didn't have enough time to make it out. I'll make sure I throw out the opportunity earlier next time.

When I collect my thoughts a little better, I'll share with all of you the impact last night had on some of the guys who were there.

BTW that song was Let There Be Angels Round The Children from CAACONAA>

Well done Mike and Terry. Thanks again.

What? Nobody is interested in a rare, left-coast performance by the overwhelmingly talented Mr. Terrence Scottford Taylorman?

Have all the California DA fans moved to Cashville or Minnesota?

Terry Taylor and Mike Roe will be performing on August 26 at Camp CAACONAA in Chatsworth, CA.

Camp CAACONAA, inspired by the Terry Taylor and Theo Obrastoff production Come As A Child Or Not At All , is a camp for Dad's to bring one of their kids for intense, one-on-one bonding in the red, rocky hills of Chatsworth. Hiking, archery, bb-guns, and baseball are the background for this unique father/child experience.

Terry and Mike will be performing at our traditional late night, outdoor show. Cartoons, movie clips and live music are the perfect reason to cuddle your kid under the stars and laugh, and cry, and love.

Go here to read an article about last week's Camp CAACONAA for the LAPD.

Cost is $30 per father/child pair for the whole experience from 4pm Friday to 2pm Saturday. If you can only make the show, it's from 7pm to 9:30pm on Friday. Cost for show and dinner is $20 per father/child pair.

Come and enjoy the land where Roy Rogers, Zorro, and The Lone Ranger made their marks, and where Charles Manson went down.

Directions are here, but that's not all. Follow the directions, then go past Rocky Peak 1/8 mile to the KidsFutureNow property.

I need to know if you are coming, so contact me at fred@childrenshungerfund.org

Hey folks,

Long time no post.

I'm just here to share that my cousin, Andy, lost his battle with heroine addiction yesterday, and went to walk beyond the stars in the arms the beautiful One. He would be 27 on Valentines Day.

Over the years, I've absorbed this music we all love. The comfort heard in this sad sweet music has had an incredible impact on me and my family. Even today, in the depths, I'm drawn to it's message of beautiful hope in sorrow. I praise God for His word. I thank Him for Terry's perspective.

In the wood between the worlds,

Fred

Disc looks good, with the black ink screen on showing the king in all his outdoor glory.

It sounds good too. Seller: daystarmusic

$25.00 ain't bad right?

There's a DEDT up there for $80! That's all my birthday money right there.

How do I know if a ebay win is a fake?

I just got my first ever cd copy of Outdoor Elvis!! Woo Hoo!

I was suspicious at first because I bought it cheap with the "Buy It Now" option, which means to me that the seller has a stock of them. The shrink wrap was of the stretchy crimped style not the folded style. Then, as I tore into the shrink wrap I didn't get that familiar waft of fruity printing press smell that usually accompanies old Alarma Records.

The insert is shinier than I think it should be and the words are a bit blurry.

I'm not saying it is a fake, I'd just like to know if yours is the same way to be sure.

If it is the real deal I'll give the seller a stellar review. If it's fake, I'll sic Terry's team of high powered lawyers and leg breakers on the poor sap.

We're working on having it at a castle in the Hollywood Hills. I think Charlie's Angels or something like that was filmed there.

Anyway, it will max out at a hundred people, making the room look and feel crazy full.

We're gonna bring in the big monitors again and give it that zoo-tv/doppelganger/pink floyd feel and load it up with special guests. Last time we produced Rob Watson, Jeff Elbel and Burleigh Drummond. This time, we'd be likely to add to that.

But, and this is the kicker, I need donors! We plan to charge like 5-10 bucks to get in to make up the cost, but I got nothing but a location and know-how and a couple hundred bucks.

If there are any of you out there who love 'em enough to pony up some filthy lucre for the BIG show, let me know.

We usually can't keep ourselves from shooting and editing the shows we put on so if you contribute, you'll be sure to get a copy of whatever we put together.

Again, with help, we can do this. Without help, it's just a dream.

Savvy?

I mean, Daniel Amos references found in public places. I'm a terrible speller.

I went to the Skirball Center (for those of you who don't know, that's the Jewish/American mecca in Los Angeles) for a wedding and there in giant letters, as you walk in were these familiar words:

"Your old men will dream dreams
you young men will see visions"

Of course, I know where the quote really comes from, it's just cool to see TST "quoted" in such an important place.

Anybody else see something they want to report?

I remember this version. In fact, I downloaded it on my first laptop on my first internet connection right before Gene died.

I've gone back to it from time to time, but I never noticed the #19 lick. Smooth move.

I can't see why it didn't make the original cut.

Kcrw 06-10-2004 08:47 Forum: General Discussion

Hey Jeffrey,

KCRW is LA's only source for consistent new and eclectic music. NPR station but the focus is on the artsy fartsies that live and walk among us.

There is only one show on the station that everybody knows and listens to: Morning Becomes Eclectic with your host Nic Harcourt. Listen online if you want to get the vibe, but it's just as the name suggests; eclectic. This guy is considered LA's version of CMJ. But, with his popularity comes a wall of deflection. It may be tough to get through to him. You may want to drop my info on him as a door opener (email me if you want the scoop). mbe@kcrw.com

Also, there's another small show on the station that is almost a guaranteed play. It's called Dragnet - A musical line-up of criminally overlooked tunes, hidden gems, guilty pleasures and standout selections. The host Eric J. Lawrence owes me a favor. He's ejl@kcrw.com

Also, I think the promotions person there is Cathy Timkin. I don't know her email, but it may be worth a call to get in touch with her.

Check it out and let me know how it goes.

I liken it to Disneyland. 06-02-2004 19:12 Forum: General Discussion

Down in southern cal we don't where shoes we lay it waaaaay back.

We also live a culture that is indellibly marked by Walt Disney's hand. For nearly 50 years we've had the Magic Kingdom in our backyard and for some reason we hold it up as our strange heretical standard to live by. We go there often. So often, in fact that we get very defensive and critical if anything's changed. The discussions of what they're doing at the park (new rides, closed rides) often creeps into conversations that can be quite heated. In fact if you want a Californian to yell at you, tell him you love what Eisner's done with the place.

What does this have to do with Lost Dogs doing DA, Choir, 77s, Adam Again?

I imagine the new Lost Dogs album will be like an Anaheim native visiting Orlando. I've never visited Walt Disney World, but friends who have describe it as the same as Disneyland, but strangely different. They say it's like a dream, where you recognize where you are, but some details are missing and others are exaggerated. Some things you miss, (like the flaws and the intimacy) while others are greatly improved upon. Some things are so different that you lose your orientation and get lost trying to find the familiar again.

In other words, imagine your childhood backyard; the place where you lived some of your greatest adventures. Now imagine that Trading Spaces has the bright idea to build it for you again in your adulthood in another state and culture. They do their best to recreate it, cutting corners here, improving on it there. Then they present it to you and it's good. It brings you back and your nostalgia is overwhelming, but something ain't quite right.

That's what I expect from the new Dogs album.
