"Ain't Gonna Fight It" off of the Maranatha 5 album. I was hooked right away. "Ain't Gonna Fight It" is probably the 'tamest' DA song ever so I have been challenged musically and lyrically ever since.
A side story:
Shotgun Angel came out in 1977 when I was 11. In that same year, I developed a pre-teen crush on Debby Boone, who had released "You Light Up My Life" that year. The next year, Debby Boone and her sisters released an album that included a cover of "Father's Arms" on it. Talk about pre-teen heaven. My girlfriend (in my mind) had recorded a song by my favorite rock band. At the time, I didn't care that it sounded like a cheesy version of "Fathers's Arms".
I've always wondered if Terry's reference to Debby Boone in "Bibleland" was at least in part a result of her recording "Father's Arms".

I personally don't look at DFBB as the pinnacle, but as the fulcrum point of DA's albums. On the one side you have the fun of the Maranatha!-era influenced albums (DA, SA, HD) and the common thread of the iAlarma! Chronicles quartet. On the other side of DFBB you have the remaining albums which express a deeper, yet simpler, lyrical maturity; and musical styles which tend to be more timeless and original.
DFBB contains elements from both sides (and sometimes neither) - and to me that is what makes it a great album.

Props - I love this song and I think it fits in well with the theme of Alarma! The fact that it is a song about props and sounds like it could be a show tune is brilliant.
On the album credits, Marty is credited as 'reluctant lead vocal', so the vocal styling was either planned or Marty just can't sing.
edit: from a comment by Marty a few years ago on the Larry thread:
"I think one has to be honest about one's abilities and then make valued decisions. I can sing, but not as good as Glen Lystne (the vocalist on I'm In Love). I'd like these tunes to go futher then my voice can carry them, if there's any hope of that happening, then I don't pick my voice. I plan on singing one or two songs on this album, if I can convince myself."

I received Maranatha 5 as a Christmas gift............over 30 years ago! And so began my journey with DA.
It is a cool album and I think the best of the Maranatha compilation albums. Although I also like Maranatha 2 as it is a good sampling of early 70's Maranatha music.
I always liked the cover art of Maranatha 5.
IIRC, "Golden Ages" by Sweet Comfort Band was written in relation to the death of Bill Sprouse, who wrote "Shotgun Angel".

Is this version going to be remastered? The original on CD is said to be a bit flat. If I recall correctly, 'Unattainable Earth' was remastered for Dr. DET, and has more of a fuller sound.
Any info on how Arena Rock became involved in this?

Although there are multiple themes to TMTSTM, a main theme I see is 'perspective' Perspective found in many different ways and means - the whole looking back in a rear view mirror after you have passed something and seeing it differently. And being 57, Terry probably has fair amount of perspective.
Some lyrical examples:
It All Depends: "I guess it all depends on how you look at these things"
The Midget, The Speck and The Molecule: "Can you see me through your glass darkly?"
Madonna Inn: "Come Sunday morning everything in there's true, but Friday night is no time for revival"
Giants in the Land: "Parchment plans and cobweb dreams"
Salton Sea: "We were kings and queens, now our brittle-boned dreams are shipwrecked on the Salton Sea"
My Cardboard Box: "In time I grew disgusted by all the homeless scum, but babe I've just adjusted now that I'm one"
Snow in a Can: "Abracadabra, alakazam, flip a switch and it's snowin' at Disneyland"
A Medley of Our Hit: "No this is nothin', really nothin' at all. Compared to coming glory, it don't compare a bit."
Tremelo: "In a trembling daze, an ephemeral haze that the trusting heart rejects"

In a similar vein, 'Snow in a Can' thematically reminds me of DA's 'Pay for Surf' - regarding the attraction we have to things that aren't the 'real thing'.
"Here's an artificial wave by the Astroturf
If the water's flat, he'll pay for surf
By inflatable palm trees on the shifting sand
She plays beach blanket bingo with her plastic man"
I like 'Snow in a Can' because of the juxtoposition between the musical style and the lyrical content.

I think Cardboard Box comes from a metaphorically semi-autobiographical look by Terry at aspects of his own life - its a love song to his wife that essentially says "I don't have the world to offer, only my love".
I think (Only One Bum in) Corona del Mar is very similar. Put Terry in as the Bum and the whole song takes on an interesting meaning. I think the key line in that song is "and some of us think he may be the richest man who ever lived in Corona Del Mar"; and that would probably apply to Terry very well - in the sense that he posseses more important things in life than monetary riches.
In both songs, like a lot of Terry's lyrics, he is able to make a universal statement out of a seemingly much smaller and unrelated situation.

Sounds great.
One of the advantages of a printed book is that it is nearly impossible/impractical to bootleg like the other media out there. Once you print 1000 books, you only have 1000 books (or less due to attrition). So it truly becomes an item for fans and collectors.
The only problem with a book is 50 years from now when Terry's genius is discovered by the mainstream, my great-grandkids will be bugging me to auction off my first-edition "Taylor's Book of Lyrics".

Has there ever been any consideration to publishing a book of Terry's lyrics? He sure has the volume to fill a book. I would guess that 75% or more of his lyrics are poetry quality. And since Terry owns the lyrics, the major cost would be printing.
I know of a number of people that would enjoy such a lyric/poetry book who would normally be uninterested in CDs because their musical tastes differ.
(You might even be able to sell copies to some of the Literature Departments at the school's listed in "Hide the Beer...")
