Well, thanks anyway - think I got it. Just some variations on a G chord in the break. Kinda have the intro - at least the melody notes. Not sure about the harmonizing ones, but I'll get there.

Hi! Would anyone have the tab or chord breakdown for the guitar intro and fills on Can't Take My Eyes Off You from Songs of the Heart? I love that arrangement but am having a little trouble getting those licks down. Thanks in advance.

I just posted this to the DADL yahoo group and thought I'd drop in and post here as well. It was GREAT guys!!! Thanks Terry, Mike, Derri, and Steve for a wonderful evening. Well worth the 5 hr drive.
Just thought I'd note that we had a chance to see a great concert in east Texas last night - the Lost Dogs played a fantastic full set of songs running the gamut of their releases. We were treated to songs from LRRH all the way to their newest release and all were performed in fine fashion. Harmonies were great and instrumentation was full and in fine form. Mike even had a few chances to really show his stuff in some very tasty solos. Steve's drumming and percussions was spot on - even pulling out a xylophone(?) and harmonica on occasion. Also, the new songs sound great! SEE THE DOGS IF YOU CAN! And from what I heard at the concert the new album should be a winner - good songs with some good, very interesting beats and arrangements. And it was on sale at the show - just haven't had a chance to hear it yet.
and a bit extra - some highlights that come to my middle aged mind right now - Eleanor It's Raining and a tribute to Gene - No Room for Doubt.
All I can say is WOW!!

I read this this morning and when I saw the Buechner reference I immediately thought of this group. I really appreciate these guy's devotionals and Ravi's preaching. They also quote Lewis and MacDonald alot. If you'd like to check them out you can find stuff at www.rzim.org

A Holy Ground
I was approached some time ago by a group of teenagers conducting a study on faith and belief in America. My reaction was immediately one of curious excitement. I was excited to find young people thinking through such vital matters, whether it was a project thought up in their own minds or one assigned by a teacher. Silently, I offered a quick prayer that God would speak clearly to them through their study and help me speak clearly in my answers.
"Who or what in your words is God?" they asked first. I could only imagine the vast assortment of answers they must have received as they approached random people in a shopping mall. I replied, "He is Father, creator, and king. He is the only one whose existence relies on no other, and who is in and of Himself perfect. He is the hunter and husband of our hearts and minds."
Their second question asked whether or not I believed in absolutes and why. "Yes, I believe in absolutes because I don't think life makes sense without them," I said. "When you're in a car and suddenly your brain tells you that something is moving, you respond the same way every time. You find a stationary object, a building or a tree. You find something that orients you, and tells you whether it is your car or the car beside you that is moving. Absolutes are the stationary principles that are built into life and help us as we move through it. They are truths that ultimately point us to God." The young interviewers commented on the illustration (which was not my own); I wondered again how vastly different were the answers they had received to the inquiry.
And then they asked their final question: "If you were standing before God and had the opportunity to ask Him anything at all, what would you ask Him?" I cannot explain it except to say that my words seemed to leap out of me almost involuntarily, "I would ask Him why my dad had to die so young."
Fredrick Buechner says that man cannot live his life only within his skull. In this instance, I was reminded just how true it is that the mind cannot sever itself from the heart. In the midst of presenting the apologetics that govern my life and offering the reasons for the hope that is within me, with one simple question I was swept back to that tender spot and reminded of my desperate need for these reasons, for the God that intimately reaches both my heart and my mind.
For undeniably, God was near to us through my father's swift loss to cancer. Though painfully realized, we saw the evidence of Romans 8:28 that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him," and we saw as Joseph himself saw, that even in the midst of harm, God had intentions for good. And I still see that there is a certain holy ground within a broken heart. In many ways it was a turning point for me in faith and sight. Though a tenderness remains, we often find in our deepest sorrow, the compelling touch of God.
As holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel once noted, what we say about God, we must be able to say over the darkest pits of life. What we know about God, we must be able to profess in the midst of brokenness, in the middle of a very dark world, in the midst of disorienting pain, and the angst of "why?"
I am convinced that a biblical theology and a sound apologetic is the balm to life's deepest wounds and the torch for its darkest pits. Only in Christ do we find the one who can provide coherent answers to life's most probing questions; only through the Cross do we find meaning in suffering. We find the holy ground of God's broken heart and body, crushed for our iniquity, broken that we may find Him. We find the one who not only bore our sin but bore our sorrows. And in our relationship with God, found in Christ, made possible by the Cross, we find the one who not only is, but is here.

Hello to all you wild and crazy Damb-ers (and your alter egos)! Thought I'd log in and post a line about the 77s tribute. Got mine day before yesterday and was able to hear about half of it so far. There really are some good musicians/technicians out there! I've liked alot of what I've heard. I have to say the first song really took me by surprise - those Three Nails guys (whoever they may be) really kick it. Was blown away by the guitars. It's all good, though. One other thought 'fore I dive back into work....... I was listening to Ba-ba-ba-ba as I arrived at work today and found myself thinking, "What a great theme song for the Democratic party!" Of course, that might just be me.

Good points. Kinda like what I heard about the reasoning behind alot of the statues and artifacts (stations of the cross, etc.) of some of our older Christian churches. Since many people couldn't read, graphic representations of the Bible teachings were erected to help them remember. Made sense to me. The problems arise (I think) when people take a tangent and worship the image more than what it represents.
But I agree about both types of music having a place. Being on the charismatic end of the spectrum we lean heavily toward the more modern stuff but we occasionally mix in some more hymnlike songs. Matter of fact, we were discussing how alot of the early charismatic choruses were almost straight from scripture and how some of us kind of missed that; whereas alot of the newer stuff is as you stated. Not that those choruses rival A Mighty Fortress or anything, but there was a simple faith about them.....
Ah well, I have submitted Beautiful Scandalous Night as one to learn for worship (again) and think we're gonna do it this time around. I'm looking forward to seeing how it comes out.

Thankfully that's what we hear from the pulpit at church. The first church I attended regularly was during the Charismatic outpouring of the 70's-80's and there was alot of the "prosperity" message being preached. It never seemed to stand up to a comparison to scripture so I would do as someone suggested - "it's like eating fish - spit out the bones". On the plus side there was always a balance with some of the guys preaching a more realistic view of life.
Christ promised that we would see our share of tribulation. What I believe sets us apart is the Hope of our calling and the Promise He's given. As y'all stated, "all things work together for the good....".

Thanks for the clarification, jiminy! Is that the actual definition of a hymn? I always just associated it with all those old songs found in a.......... you guessed it ......... hymnal. Never stopped to think about what defined a song as a hymn.

Eunice? I actually work in Opelousas, just down 190 from you. I grew up in Mississippi, but now make Lafayette home (not because of a woman, at least not that I know of).

You're right about the work to do, but there have been some opportunities, albeit a few. Back around the time of the Dogs' Green Room Serenade someone brought them to a Baptist church in Baton Rouge but didn't do such a great job promoting. I happened to hear about it by accident the day before the concert. Small crowd but BIG show. It was fantastic! Then waaaaaay back Russ Taff played in Alexandria at the Baptist college and who was opening for him? The Choir. Another great night for Louisiana.
Other than that I've had to travel to Houston to catch the Dogs and C-Stone a couple of times for Terry and/or DA. Mais, dat is one long drive from da swamp, cha.

Well, I just noticed the stats next to your post. Lafayette, huh? I grew up there but now make the booming metropolis of Eunice my home (them country women!!) Glad to see we have another fan down here. Now if we can find a few more maybe we can get in on the next BBQ tour or somethin'! Welcome aboard.

I have to agree MF. I like the album alot, but I wouldn't rank BSN as one of the best on there. But hey, I'm glad it is touching others. That song's lyrics are what it's all about.
