of course, I was there to see JerusaLem who DA opened for Cool

Who organized that event? Seems like a strange combo.

Funny how christian concerts in the 80's had such strange combos.

I saw a concert where Whitecross opened for Steve Taylor! Shocked

I do have to say, and Berger will back me up on this,
anyone who witnessed the Swirling Eddies at Lifest
witnessed a truly strange event.

That rodeo mud hole pit they played in was strangely fitting
I guess... like they wanted to seperate them from the rest
of the pop fest. It was like this strange red mud spot about
100 feet wide in the middle of all the nice green grass of the
rest of the fest, and the small Eddies stage was in the middle
of one end of that....actually the red hole, as we termed it
had a fence around too I believe.

Camarillo, Berger & Arthur with Mike "Spot" Roe,
Steve "Speckled Bird" Hindalong & Mike "Gut Boy" Stand

The Eddies were in very rare form that night, the songs were
sort of strange long jams with he vocals similar to the originals.

Driving In England
Let's Spin
Hell Oh
Tiny Town
Attack Of The Pulpit Masters
Strange Days
Billy Graham
Potential
Arthur Fhardy's Yodeling Party
Don't Hate Yourself
The Happy Wanderer

We need to edit the tapes together, and yes Berger we didn't
burn them..... heh... Cool

Gonna do anything with the "tapes?"

Before the show we had a chance to go backstage for a minute
thanks to our trusty guide Podgy Gooliota....
and I remember the guys sitting around on folding chairs and a
punch bowl of M&Ms. And of course a full case of Grape Nehi
Chocolate Action Beverage.

Later we ended up outside the locked door which had a scrawny
preteen guard.... standing in line to get in. This was in the
olden days.. and here comes Rob Watson through the crowd,
and the miniscule guard tried to stop him from entering...
"I'm in the band!!!" or something to that effect was heard.

Incredible show, Daniel Amos set was pretty long and Randy's
set was simliar to the One Night in 20 Years video...same outfit.
The Eddies set was great...the dress Berger had on, I mean
wow, simply ravishing.... can you say Sandi Patti?

The encore of covers was great with Randy joining them on stage
..."We Gotta Get out Of This Place" seemed extremely fitting since
we were in some sort of 110 degree metal bunker for the last
few hours. ...........It was HOT! zibbidy bap boom blah, pow
pow pow....

I wish I would have gone to Cornerstone '90! Crying

my one and only time to see DA/Swirlies...'90 Cornerstone and we drove 3000miles round trip just to be in their presence.

Mary Faker Eddy

Flannel Camarillo and Prickly Disco

Arthur Fhardy yodeling

Spot doing "Snowball"

Berger, Camarillio, and Ed

We actually tried to resurrect them for "Instruction" but they didn't pass the censors. We'll keep trying to figure out something.. Big Grin

Without a doubt (and I may have answered this already) The Amos & Randy Show, Bethel College, St. Paul Minnesota April 11, 1980. The funny thing was I had already heard The Horrendous Disc Radio Show(almost two years prior to this show), and was ready for a lot of the songs. They played Endless Summer and Cinema Girl and I couldn't wait for HD to come out, which it did two months later (and no Cinema Girl) and then what, a month after that Alarma (which had Endless Summer) Boy what a year that was......

Without a doubt my favorite time was at "The Amos & Randy" show on April 11, 1980 at Bethel College in Roseville, Minnesota. About a year later I hooked up with Progressive Pacers own Randy Carey who promoted concerts for about 4 years. We brought in just about anybody and everybody who was cool at the time. We brought in DA a few times, along with Sir Stonehill, Mr. Norman, Petra, Servant, Mark Heard, Rez Band, Steve Taylor (His first time he warmed up for Rez Band) and I'm sure there were many others (of which Dale might remember, of course he was just a young whippersnapper back then). I do have a recording of that Amos & Randy show that I recorded on a regular cassette player, it's not that good, but you can pick up on how fun it was from the crowd reactions. Oh to be young again........

Here it is!

  1984

Wheaton College, Doppelganger Tour.

They played three songs from VH, including Dance Stop. Wheaton has this "no dancing" part of "The Pledge". Terry openly encouraged the kids to dance anyway, which almost got them kicked off without getting their money.

You just gotta love these guys! Big Grin

C'stone '88 was the late-night stage where they opened with "Money (That's What I Want)", and from there on out peppered their usual set (focusing on tunes from "Darn Floor") with a number of covers, including, but not limited to:

We've Got To Get Out Of This Place
You Can't Do That
Pump It Up
Revolution
A Taste Of Honey (the Herb Alpert/Tijuana Brass arrangement, during the "I Didn't Build It For Me" break)
...And for an encore, Terry led the audience in an a capella rendition of "Puff The Magic Dragon"

Sidebar:
I think that was the same year Charlie Peacock played two shows (one on the mainstage, and one on the late-night stage with Vector), and kicked off his late set with a groovy rendition of Talking Heads' "Cities" in homage to his soon-coming transition from Sacramento to Gnash-ville.

Return to main thread:
I've always regretted that I never got to see DA live during the Doppelganger/Vox Humana years with the multimedia show. I did see them at C'stone '84 (the inaugural fest), but they played the oudoor mainstage in broad daylight, which was an extremely limiting format for them. Frown

This would make a nice "pre-order gift" bootleg!! Pleased
Any more of that video as shown in ITF?

I can only imagine the song licensing would be prohibitively expensive. But it's a nice thought, and maybe the pressing run would even be low enough to arrange all that through the legendary Harry Fox Agency. Tongue

  Nevertheless...

I would be the first in line to pony up for a pre-order if that concert (CD or DVD video, or heck, even an .mp3/.avi download) was offered, either in part or in its entirety, as an incentive. (Note: That concert is also marked by several "sightings" - by Terry - of Outdoor Elvis himself, as well as a brief apologetic for the SoCal usage of the word "b.itchin'".)

Wink Big Grin Cool

Whats on ITF is all that exists as far as I know. Dave Perry just did that little walk out thing during "Darn Floor" and then returned back stage. The tape then cuts and comes back to the audience band thing.
