I am really pumped as my first and only DA show was C2K, though I've seen the Dogs a number of times.

I notice the church they are gigging at in Phx looks a bit conservative in pictures. I hope they aren't afraid to rock it up still.

Yeah, I'd prefer a different setting but any show in AZ is ok by me. Cool

So he is! I hadn't noticed that until you mentioned it. Being a VAX owner myself, I'd call that a ringing endorsement...

And now that I've gotten a closer look, I can see Jerry's playing one of the new James Tyler VAX models.

  RE: Gear List

So this is a Variax with pickups too? Didn't know that was out there.

I've never played a VAX (I assume that's the insider lingo uou're using) but seen a few played at various shows. Steve Howe of Yes uses one to replace some of his more exotic instruments like the Coral electric Sitar, but I haven't seen one played as a main axe much.

  RE: Gear List

Per Pam Mark Hall on FB, Line 6 gave the band an endorsement deal for the tour, thus the Variax's.

  RE: Gear List

Yeah, two of the Tyler Variax guitars have dual humbuckers, and the third (the tremolo model) has a humbucker in the bridge position, and two single-coil pickups at the center and neck. The one Jerry's got is the most attractive of the three - the other two are just butt-ugly.

The Tylers are the only ones currently in production - I wonder why Greg got an older model instead?

I have the original budget-line build, the 300. I use it in combination with the POD XT Live - I like the combo a lot. I've been able to use the Workbench software to create some cool custom model sounds: I tweaked the Rick 360-12 model a bit to give it a bit more McGuinn-style bite, and also came up with a believable electric bass sound and high-strung (Nashville-style) acoustic guitar tuning. They've all come in handy at one time or another when I played for Sunday morning services. Cool

RE: a video release of a show.......This MUST happen.....surely there are some geeky, gear-head DA fans who will be attending and could help the band make sure at least one show is filmed/recorded with an eye toward a commercial release? This tour is too unbelievable and historically significant to not be properly documented.

I'm sure there will be a lot of cameras rolling at cornerstone.

If we get multiple camera shots from any given show, they can be edited together. A release (of good enough quality) I am sure would go a long way toward funding any future DA project.

They could do like what the violet burning did with their DVD "the loudest sound in my heart". TVB simply set up a couple of cameras at each concert, then, for each song, edited the video from multiple concerts together to a single audio file. It's better than I expected (even though the clothes and venue change during a given song).

The Wilmington, Ohio show was terrific. A good crowd that brought good energy and vibes. A solid venue with excellent 30K watt sound system that hit the room with good thump and detail. There was even some concert level lighting going on!
All of the vocals were great (Averret added beautifully- he also brought energy). I thought it interesting that they played 2 from Bibleland and nothing from Darn Floor. I hate to be picky (but fans are by nature) but I would have rather heard more D.A. than the Eddie cuts. Otherwise, all of the choices were very satisfying--getting to hear a Beuchner cut was a treat!
The band was gracious with the fans after the show but I missed getting a photo with Terry - he left early.
Huge thanks to Allen Willoughby and his Sugartree Ministry (doing great things for his community) for providing the venue. His being in the old Willoughby Wilson band probably had some influence on his above average sound system.
So great to see DA live.

So if you want video shots does that mean I am allowed to take my video camera and get some? I could even tripod it so that the shots are steady. Let me know if this is acceptable.

Posted by Audiori J on 06-20-2011 at14:27:

Yeah, sure. I know the band doesn't mind, Jerry was encouraging it on facebook. The only thing is sometimes the venue can be cranky about it. If we get enough clips, even from different venues maybe we can edit them all together. Would be helpful to get a soundboard recording but again, sometimes the people running sound are helpful and sometimes they are not. Depends on how busy they are.
