  DA - BibleLand

I have been playing Bibleland today. This is a great album that I would like to see remixed and rereleased. When I play it in my house, all is great. When I am in the car, the murky/heavy production seems to weigh down the sound. I wish that I knew enough about music to say something intelligent. All I know is that I must set the bass all the way down and treble up, but I like the heavy bass cords being played.

Somebody help me here. This album represents a huge creative boon for Terry (what period isn't?) and I really like the lyrics and the music on this album. A rerelease with cleaner sound would be fun just like I would like to see some of the 80s stuff with drum machines rereleased with real drumming thrown back in.

Like Tim Burton reimagined the Planet of the Apes and Sweeny Todd, I can see success with a remixed DA/Terry Scott Taylor classics.

Aside: Thanks to the Townsends for putting out the Instruction Through Film. That is a DVD worth three times the price to go down memory lane and be reminded of how freakin long I have been a fan of the band and the reasons that I have apprieciated what they represent in the soundtrack of my good life so far. If there was a follow-up, yes I would pre-pay. Heck, I would pre-pay on any future projects without complaining...unless I was guaranteed to be mentioned like the lucky Big Dork in the lyrics.

Hehe it is a fun odd collection. Theres not a ton of stuff left, unless we make a compilation of more fan filmed live stuff.

Any more footage left over from the C'stone '88 gig? I was at that show, and would love to see more of it, as it was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. 'Course, I imagine releasing it in its entirety would run into song licensing issues, since they performed, like, 38 covers that night. Tongue

  broken ladders to bakersfield

I must agree, Bibleland is a great record. To be honest, I really didn't care for it after I first bought it on cassette at Cornerstone '05. It took me almost 2 years until I re-revisited Bibleland and found out how much I liked it. I played the cassette quite a bit last summer. I recall someone describing it as "The angry Daniel Amos record." How true... it's a heavy one.

Having said this, I think it might be high time to re-revisit "Zoom Daddy", a record that I still haven't been able to 'get into.'

Zoom Daddy is in my top 5 of all-time. A true classic, and my favorite TST work.

Alrighty... another good reason to re-listen!

  Rough n raw but classic

Yeah, after the smoothness of Motorcycle, to hear Bibleland is somewhat jarring. It's not just the music, either. The lyrics reflect the rawness and roughness of the music, or vice versa. A few songs are barely listenable to me, including the title cut. But several grew on me with repeated play, as with DFBB.

In the end, Bibleland is one of those that I still go back to when I get in a certain mood. That's a mark of a classic work to me.

Hehe .

(prior posts edited to make sense and not to take away from the request given)

unfortunately there is nothing funny about wounding a supporter of the band. the mention of big dork in a song was uncalled for and the idea of reaping what you sow comes to mind. if big dork had been leading a rally to revolt the cd's late arrival and had been malicious in his attempts then i still think the higher road should've been taken.....but such wasn't the case. let's not forget that big dork was a moderator on this board.

if he was gonna be remembered for something it should be for the hundreds...if not thousands he has sent terry and the dogs for the tribute cd's he made.....not for a unkind remark in a song.

and before anyone claims "humor" was the intent of the song, let me remind us all that love is kind. and it is important to give a kind word.

Hey Terry, feel free to shoot me an email and we can have a laugh over this whole thing! It's pretty funny even though some can't see it right now Pleased

don't misinterpret my post. i am not trying to stir anything up....but i have a difficult time with what went down (as a fan) and the aftermath of everything....unfortunately being manifest as big dork and his buddies. he deserves better.

as you were.
