  Lost Dogs Cover songs?

What would be other good songs for the Lost Dogs to cover?

I heard Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" on the radio a couple of times over the last few weeks and I though it might make a good candidate. It had been a long time since I heard it and I didn't like Neil Young's voice for a long time, even after I started listening to 60s music (higher-pitch and whiny sounding). I don't care for his political meddling either.

However, this is a nice little tune with some harmonica and a little steel guitar that would lend itself to the addition of another verse to better complete the song from a Christian perspective, IMHO. Probably Neil Young's most popular song, too. Funny he wrote it much earlier in his career. I think it came out about the year I was born. Big Grin

Neil Young › Heart Of Gold (4:27)

I want to live,
I want to give
Ive been a miner for a heart of gold.
Its these expressions I never give
That keep me searching for a heart of gold
And Im getting old.
Keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And Im getting old.

Ive been to hollywood
Ive been to redwood
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold
Ive been in my mind, its such a fine line
That keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And Im getting old.
Keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And Im getting old.

Keep me searching for a heart of gold
You keep me searching for a heart of gold
And Im getting old.
Ive been a miner for a heart of gold.

I was just thinking about this yesterday while listening to Maria McKee. Here is a song that I think would be funny if they did it.

Drinkin' In My Sunday Dress

"Drinkin' In My Sunday Dress"

I can barely feel the sheets
With all these crumbs down in my bed
Oh, no
How can I get to sleep
With all this buzzin' in my head
And who'd of ever thought
I'd not complain about a mess
Serves me right, I guess
This is what I get
For eatin' crackers with my gin
And drinkin' in my Sunday dress

Telephone is by the bottle
Which is always by my bed
Time to time I give it a rattle
To make sure that it's not dead
I will wait here for your call
'Til I run out of cigarettes
I love to play the part
Of a damsel in distress
Flickin' ashes in my coffee
Drinkin' in my Sunday dress

Well, I've been on the road to this
And I've been on the way to this
But who'da think it'd come to this
Don't let on you've seen me like this
Like this

My ol' transistor's soundin'
Just as twangy as a Fender
My radiator growls
Like Elvis after Sunday dinner
I've drained my last tequila
And I've thrown away the blender
I've poured out all the wine
From now on nothin' but the best
Cognac and Patsy Cline
While drinkin' in my Sunday dress

Well, I've been on the road to this
And I've been on the way to this
I surely ain't a hypocrite
I've had my fun
And now I must confess

Our reverend is a kingly soul
Repents 'em on a dime
His Bible is not inked in gold
He's not the cheatin' kind
One Sunday after meetin'
I was in the greetin' line
He said, 'I seen you from the altar
Gulpin' down communion wine'
'Just remember who's beside you
When it's no business of mine'
I said, 'Remember who's beside you
When it's no business of mine'
